My Approach

A good therapeutic collaboration is always led by you, the client.

You might know exactly what you want to work on in therapy. You might need help deciding. I will work with you to facilitate your ownership of our work in a safe, collaborative space.

Together, we can:

  • Transform long-standing patterns that drive difficult emotions, relationships, and behaviors
  • Navigate life transitions
  • Explore issues of identity and belonging
  • Process trauma and grief
  • Address and accept existential concerns

These are big therapeutic tasks that are best addressed gradually, through a consistent process of trust building.

In sessions, I will ask that you share whatever comes to mind. I will listen and provide insights that I develop by getting to know you over time. I will also challenge you, at times, when that is needed. Through this process, you will come to more fully understand your own mind. Eventually, you will be able to offer such insights and challenges to yourself. This is when our work together will be completed.

This style of therapy is called “psychodynamic.” This framework is based on the understanding that a therapist and client can work together to understand the often unconscious dynamics behind day-to-day struggles. You can read more about psychodynamic psychotherapy and its scientific evidence here

In 2019, I completed an advanced psychodynamic psychotherapy training program at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute. I was a fellow with the American Psychoanalytic Association in 2020-2021.
